Howdy All. I just finished being the "3d guy" on a project with Loaded Pictures out of Seattle, WA and thought I'd post it here.

The project was a trailer for HALO Legends, which ais a series of anime short films about the HALO produced by some of the top anime studios in the world.

My job was to create monolithic HALO letters and then animate flythroughs through them. The letters were supposed to be metallic, but beat up from years of being out in space.

Once I got the base meshes done in modeler, I took them to 3D coat and sculpted a bunch of damage onto the forms. After that I brought them back into Lightwave where I lit, animated, and rendered them.

One intresting aspect to this project was that I handled the initial work in my office on XP64, then FTP'ed it up to Seattle where I used WebEx to remotely set up 9 Octo-Mac LWSN render farm on OSX. It was a bit of a crazy pipeline, but it got the rendering done much faster by using their CPU muscle, and it saved upload download times for the rendered frames, which were at least 20mb each. All of the passes were output with EXR Trader and edited/comped by Loaded up in Seattle. They used Trapcode Particular

It was cool working with Loaded in such a unique way, and Caleb the CD was great at giving clear direction as to what he wanted in the piece.

I don't have the spot hosted on my site yet, but here is a link to it on GameTrailers.

Nice work Monovich, has that HALO feel to it. Great work on the weathered look to boot.

Very cool! The detail is great in the letter forms... but then, what else would I expect from you? :D Great work, as always.

You do great work monovich, I enjoy seeing it.

thanks guys!

I gotta say the most fun on this project was working in 3d coat. Sculpting is so gratifying compared to the usual ho-hum of polygonal modeling. I actually upgraded my video card a few days ago in order to get the added CUDA support and texture memory. I'll be digging into some of those voxel sculpting tuts asap.

Hey Monovich, nice! You really captured the Halo look and feel. I dig it: thumbsup:

I had no idea you used 3DC on that. That's cool.

I think you'll like the video card with 3DC... It really helps. I got myself a 275, and it beats down the voxels like chumps, lol.
