Can anyone suggest a method for applying multiple surface attributes to a single surface ie. matt white box with metallic gold stripe. I can do it with multiple instances of my model and transparency maps but I am looking for a better method.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Easiest way is to put different surfaces on the polygons, if you can. Surface Mixer (shader for legacy surfacing) or Material mixer (node) are the other ways.

Thanks for your suggestions Toby, material mixer sounds like the way to go the model will end up very complex going the poly route.

The per-poly method can be much more efficient, it's one of lightwave's advantages, it's so much easier than in other 3d apps. If it's done during modeling it's even easier. Using mixers always takes more render time, because all the materials are calculated for each rendered pixel, then whatever is not needed is discarded.

I hadn't considered the render aspect, it makes sense to go for the per poly route as these will be multiple high res renders of product shots.
Thanks for the advice.
