When generating cylindrical/spherical UVs, it would be nice if we had the ability to specify where the seam would occur. For example, if we are creating a map around the Y-Axis, we would be presented with four radio buttons that would allow us to choose the seam location : X+, X-, Z+, and Z-

(A workaround for current LW users is to rotate the points being UVed around origin before map creation, and then apply the inverse rotation after the map has been created to restore the vertices to their original coordinates.)
