View Full Version : SGI Inventor and Lightwave?

Are there any SGI Inventor and Lightwave solutions?
What I'm looking to do is have models from LW exported to SGI Inventor for 360degree viewing on SGI boxes and/or linux boxes. This will be used for Demo and Display purpose.
There are some convertors built into IRIX to convert to iv format but none from LW format. I know I can export to one of the supported formats fro LW. I looking for more direct route. As far as textures and color I can use Showcase on SGI.
I use LW 7.5c on Mac OS X and PC, also I have access to LW 5.6 on SGI.
Thanks in Advance!!!!

The converter you found is a standalone program which should run just fine on an SGI. But since you have access to SGI LW5.6, I thought I would also mention that you can also find a couple of Inventor related LW plugins at these URLs:

The standalone and these plugins are all based on the same code, so results should be similar. Whew, it's been quite a while since anyone asked about these old SGI plugins.

I think Inventor rocks.
I got a dream of having a SGI statched somewhere and using Inventor ivview as a big display using some pretty mouse to control it. I'm not after real serious details or textures. But having an overall 360 controlled view is a good way to demo architecture, furnture and indoor design.
I found one Inventor Mac OS X solution.
To bad the Linux Open Inventor can't be found anywhere it had alot of upfront GUI Tools, I little more then the IRIX version from what I scene). There also are Inventor games on SGI site.
I guess that there re not too many SGI heads left.
