I got my Mac version through work in 2000 I think. Created Megatron with it. Composited it in the background right in Inspire. After I left the company, they let me keep the software since no one else knew how to use it.Originally Posted by RonGC

Inspire caused a lot of its users to upgrade to its bigger brother LW. I would like to see NT come out with a updated modern version priced dirt cheap, just to introduce a new generation of users to the Lightwave universe.
There is a lot of talk on many forums of people looking for good cheap modeling programs, Inspire-2008 could be the go to program if it was priced low enough and marketed well. A lost leader so to speak, get them hooked then reel them in.

RonCG, I agree, a really good low cost small LW would probably "inspire" a whole new generation of 3D artist, expecially if they knew it had the power to do work like this sample.

inspire 3d got me into 3d..i went on to buy 3dsmax 2.5 then later came back to buy lightwave 7.0..now i have 2 seats of lightwave 9.31!
starshiptroopers roughnecks and lost in space got me into inspire3d...then max then lw!

Yeah, once I found out that Inspire actually had area lights, it made renders that much better. But if I remember right, the only way I could use them was to delete all the items from the one scene that had them in the content cd. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't let me change any of the lights to "area" type. There was some other way of getting around it as well, but I think it involved some file manipulation, which I wasn't about to attempt. Always thought that was kinda weird.
Megatron was lit with 4 of those area lights covering the sky and with different colors and intensities. Took a loooong time to render too, from what I remember.

Cool image, btw. I too never knew Inspire was capable of that.
Oh god... I still have my copy Inspire 3D lingering around in my closet with Windows 95, 98 and old copies of the Mac OS and Office suites. If you look hard enough, you can still find it for sale at computer shows, I just saw it not too long ago at one near us, for a little over 100 dollars. It is the program i first learned on, and even now that I'm using LW 9.3xx ( I can never remember what they are up to now ) I still have that fond place for Inspire.
Think i'll have to dig out the manual to see what's changed LOL.
