The OS theme is called Stealth OS it comes with window blinds.

YOu have to set up windowblinds carefully or you will get flickers when you use it with Lightwave.

The nice thing is that Windowblinds does not use up more RAM, or at least that is the claim. I've never noticed any performance loss using it. They have a 30 day tril download so you can test it out first.

    Stealth OS comes with it.

    OK....back to showing off 9.

Here is the Buddha utilizing SSS omega to try and fake attenuation (<-spelling?).

Another variation of how each shader can be used to achieve many different effects. The possibilities are almost, if not, endless.

OK, now I'll add a cup of tea and some bamboo in a pot, a wood stand, maybe some rosary beads and a flower and we'll see how this whole idea comes together. I still have to add in the caustic refraction. That will be the last step since its a slow process.

Thanks for the info Intuition. Buddha looks good - I have not as of yet grasped what SSS is all about - I am hoping the new manual will make it clear. The stuff you guys are posting though looks awesome!

Direct Link to Stealth OS in case the demo doesn't include it anymore.

Intuition: Thanks for link - didn't realise that Windowblinds was from Stardock. I have used their Objectdock Plus for a while now - wouldn't be without it. I will download blinds and try out the stealthOS -if it's low overhead it'll be worth it.

slatr: Thank you - a nice clear explanation. Cheers.

You mean the render on Wikipedia is yours? Was it rendered in LW9?

Yes, I inserted that image on the wikipedia more than a year ago. The image was rendered with 3Delight, the scene was exported from LW 8.

I hope to make the upgrade to 9 soon.

Hey Intuition, your post #13 doesn't show an image. ?
Has it been taken off? - or is it that my computer's setting are messed up somehow?

I believe someone else mentioned that it seems that Newtek had a problem with the server or something like that, that caused the loss of images. Thanks for re-posting it. Looks very cool. You know I was wondering if the coffee shader plugin can achieve similar effects since it works off of percieved volume. Not that it would help much, moreso just out of curiosity.

This bird head has inspired me to check out the edge modeling techniques you are talking about. You followed those Hex video tuts? That's a very nice model.

I also installed Windowblinds and the theme you mentioned. I'd had my computer on the most basic stripped down gfx scheme, but with windowblinds its much more eye pleasing so thanks for that inadvertant tip!

    Thanks for the replies.

Actually I was using the Nierd Modeling tutorial from

    http://www.subdivisionmodeling.com/

Which I think is a Hex tutorial. What I did was try to do the tutorial using Lw9 modeler. Some of the tools like snapping were not available at the time so I just did a basic "connect the dots" make polygon to fill in the gaps.

WindowBlinds is great for my poor eyes that have taken a good 12 years of screen white.

umm... not to be too off topic. But could you specify the settings for avoiding flickers? I'm getting them now and I wasn't in the demo.
