New Membership processing ... apologies for a slight detour.

UPDATE: The new Forum Rules one must agree to have been posted, and normal processing of new membership requests has resumed. Nevertheless, I'll leave this post up for a few days for the benefit of those who were affected.

This post is to announce and apologize for delays new applicants for membership may encounter just at the moment.

As you may know, vetting new applications for membership prior to activation can normally take a few hours or, at times, overnight. However, we are currently updating the Forum Rules to to clarify our practices and policies in the light of impending regulatory changes in some locales.

We hope to have the revised rules in place soon, at which point normal account activation processes will resume. In the meantime we must apologize and beg your patience as we endeavor to ensure our policies serve the reasonable privacy needs of members without pointless or burdensome constraints on free expression and congenial and appropriate interchange of views and information.

This is just a bump to draw the attention of existing members to the fact that our forum moderation rules have been updated to correspond to the revised Forum Rules that apply when new members sign up. If you're interested, you can review the update here:
