    Animating a string

Can anyone give me advice on how to animate a string. I've tried bones and morphs, but nothing satisfactory. With the bones I'm having a hard time getting a nice S curve of a string being blown by wind. Using morphs I get weird results in layout. It's hanging from a moving balloon in a circus scene. Any tutorials would be a godsend. Thanks guys.

Have you tried using clothfx? You could sim on a polychain and then fx metalink that to a cylinder.

Here's a tutorial using Bullet and FX MetaLink to animate a chain.

    Hope this helps.

You might find a simple displacement map with a Weight Map on the string will work. See attached sample scene.

The Object is two layers, with Layer 1 being the Balloon and Layer 2 being the String. The String has a Weight Map applied down the string using Map=>Weight=>Weights in Linear mode, right-dragging the area of influence so the Procedural Turbulence texture affects the end of the string more than the top of the string via a Gradient Alpha channel.

You can change the parameters of the Procedural Turbulence to get more or less effect on the string.
