Facebook Streaming Locally - Please Read

I opened a support request case regarding this issue a week ago. Today, after having a Newtek support rep remote into my computer, I was told to list this problem under "feature requests" in hopes that a Newtek Engineer would see it and eventually address it. I have 2 open cases through support and have also documented it on FogBug and created a thread elsewhere on this forum. I don't understand why Newtek support can't reach out to Newtek engineers directly once they confirm that there is a problem.

I stream a daily morning show to FB via my Tricaster 460 AE5 (latest update). One morning I logged into FB via the local web browser and streamed the program without incident. The next morning the local web browser doesn't receive the stream from the Tricaster. I tried running the stream through a different computer's browser from the Tricaster, and it works fine. Same stream key.

The short version of the story is Tricaster no longer streams to Facebook through it's local browser. Something changed in the last week with either IE or FB won't communicate with the Tricaster's local browser. When Newtek support remotely accessed my computer and saw the problem, she then realized she couldn't stream locally, either. The quote was something like, "Huh...it worked fine the other day." She then told me to list this issue here, as a "feature request", as it was the only way to communicate with a Newtek engineer.

I would appreciate someone confirming that they are aware this problem exists. Thanks for listening.

When you say streaming through the local browser are you using the Facebook Live streaming connection or using RTMP? I've had issues with some Facebook RTMP stream keys not working (I don't think that it is 100% on their end, but they want you to use the streaming API anyways), I've never had an issue with the Facebook Live streaming connection (which uses the streaming API).

    I'm using RTMP.

Is there a reason why you don't or can't use the integrated Facebook connection tool?

Not sure that it's a Newtek problem. Most Browsers have lately been changing the way that they deal with VOD and Live Streams.
I use RTMP for my live stream, but now have to have the Stream sent out as an HLS stream from my CDN to work so the Live Stream
will work on a lot of computers. If you're having a problem with IE have you tried Chrome or Firefox to see if the problem persists?

Yes. Scheduling live videos ahead of time, and it's nice to verify that facebook is receiving the stream locally before going live.
I think the FB API will work, I just need some direction on how I should be using the Tricaster going forward.

Tricaster only uses IE through it's interface.

You have a 460 with Advanced Edition 2, correct?
You can make a custom FB feed that will stream to your FB Page without going through a browser.
I'm doing a show now, and I'm not sitting near the 460 to see exactly.

I am aware of the API interface, if that's what you're talking about. I am also still able to stream live from tricaster via RTMP by using a different computer's browser.
My issue with the API interface is that I can't seem to SCHEDULE a live stream ahead of time through facebook and then stream to that scheduled address using API.

I appreciate your input, btw. Thank you!

We have written a plugin for TriCaster that uses the Facebook API. Here is a quick tutorial on it http://tips.newtek.com/using-the-new...anced-edition/.

I'm sorry, but this addresses none of my concerns listed above.

To preview and see if the stream is live, Why not just use another computer? Why try to do everything on the TriCaster?

In our workflow for live events, we have a Mac running both Mac and PC O.S.'s along with a iPad and Android tablet to maintain quality control across multiple browsers and apps. It just makes sense to check and make sure things are working everywhere you want them to go. Add to that running the iPad off of LTE to test a full mobile viewing experience.

Experience has taught me it's a good idea to confirm the video is being received before going live, not after the fact. That's just me. I appreciate that you have your own way of doing things.

Again, I'll do whatever it takes to make it work. I just brought attention to something that was broken. There are advantages to RTMP that cannot be duplicated by API. If it doesn't get fixed, I'm happy to change my workflow.
