This is the Final Paint of the Right Outrigger with the Main Cargohold. First i will paint all other Parts in this style. At last step i try to give it a special color sign, but that's not decided yet.

    Improve the painting

Here is a test of all parts painted so far. I get a better overall impression and can improve the painting, so that it does not affect the distance from the noisy, but shows enough details for closeups

Was watching this and curiosity strikes me. Is 3D Coat a good app for mapping? Is it easy?

I find 3D Coat is an excellent app because it is easy to create UV maps and with the Professional version, the layers are not limited and the map size is freely selectable up to 16K. Furthermore, I find the operation quite easy after a little training time.

The preparation of the objects refers to the fact that I select the object size in the modeler so that an 8K map can be projected on it. Also, I check the mesh for errors first.

I certainly admire the program, although not the design-- I find it very cluttered and not especially logical, pour MOI. --I sometimes wonder if the organization makes more sense in Russian-- perhaps some of the menus are alphabetical in Russian.

Anyway, it's very powerful, that's for sure. I've slacked off on my efforts, maybe I should give it another go.

Boubsteve, one problem I had was finding good tutorials: they all seemed to be from earlier versions, or not very good. I even purchased some Adam Gibson tutes, and I cannot recommend them at all.

There are so much other functions like sculpting and Retopo, i have to look how to in future, but for me, with this mostly simple tutorials on youtube i was able to understand, how it works. The rest was learning by doing....ok, tomoroww i will give you the links and maybe, when there is more time after painting is finished i will do a tutorial by myselfe to explane some simple steps and some useful tools. I Hope this is ok for you so far?!

Please, there's no hurry, believe me. I've had 3DC for months: If it were critical I'd be working on it, not posting here!

But links to good tutorials are always helpful, thank you.

    Tutorial Hints 3D Coat

OK, so here are some youtube Tutorials that helped me to understand some basic things and use them for my actual Spaceship Project.

First there is a simple UV Mapping Tutorial. In this tutorial not everything is correct, but it shows the basics in an easy way:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC3bm_yAhPM

The use of the UV Texture Editor while painting can be very Powerful, so this Video is a good explanation:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xkB7lDsVDY

This is a Tutorial that shows how Materials work in 3D Coat, so you can handle Materials like in real World with the basic Material in first Layer and so on...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Prjg...hNSDw&index=20

In this Tutorial (8 Parts) i could see how to paint more complex Objects and he gives a lot of tips while painting. I suggest to study all this clips:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k8d8BiMBtE
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od8zW8N-aK0
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5lbWHDaYk8
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tUgLqrUu54
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6J6C4U4ug4
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKrvREbwNtU
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCkGCr17Zqo
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XW3OoBGWcs

The use of the Camera Mapping Tool is also very Powerful, because you can use it in 3D Space, scale and move the Texturemap on every Object you want.
The Picture attachment will show this. Number one is the Menue to activate the Camera Mapping. Number 2 shows the Texture moved to an area you want and painting with the Polygon Brush. Number 3 shows the Layer Options, so you can give it a Normalmap with depth, and you can give it additional color from the Texture or more glossines and so on...its like in PS...

BTW, to link 3D Coat directly with Photoshop is also a useful tool....here is an example of how to do that... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sALxiTOeih0

...ähm, i know, that i am on the wonderful Lightwave Forum and i hope its ok to show so much 3D Coat stuff, but in future there will be more Lightwave stuff, I promise

oh, i fergott to give this link. OK its the Workflow between Substance and Lightwave Octane, but the output in 3D C is nearby the same, so its good to understand how to import the Textures in Lightwave and use them with nodes in LW Octane Plugin.
