    Chain Move v2.0 released

    Hi all,
Just letting you know that I've released Chain Move v2.0. If anyone used v1 (which is still available and still free) then you'll be pleased to know that this version uses instancing, making setup, management both greatly improved - not to mention speed improvements.

For those who are unfamiliar the bottom line is that this is a tool for those who need to create an animated chain-cog system, and do so quickly. The web page is Chain Move v2.0, but here's the blurb from it:

This plugin helps the user create chain and chain like objects and animations, particularly where chain links and cog teeth are involved - such as a bicycle chain. All that is needed is a series of points that describe the path you want the chain links to take, a chain link object, and an item to drive the chain motion, such as a cog. Features include:
    • Simply enter the cog radius and number of teeth, all the maths is worked out for you.
    • Cog teeth and chain links will always fit correctly together, no matter the length of the animation.
    • Uses instancing so, unlike the first version of Chain Move, you can change variables for all chain links in a single control panel.
    • The correct number of chain links are calculated and instanced automatically for you - but you still change the amount if you wish.
    • Animation of the chain links is automatically driven by the rotation of a driver item.
    • Use dynamics to animate the chain (see video below).

Please feel free to ask any questions if you have any.

What happens when you try to load the plugin?

Edit: My mistake - on old version was kept in the archive for some reason (there's another zip in your archive that has the correct .plugin file in it). In any case it's updated now

Well, the license is so it can be used normally. This particular plugin is commercial

OK, I see. $50 is a bit steep though to unlock native LW tech if it's likely to appear in LW 12? Don't like the EDS idea either, much rather the download just be there and you update your key if necessary a'la this sort of thing: http://www.polas.net/plugins/index.php

    However, it's pretty neat.

If you mean the spline control in 11.6 it does go a long way to allowing a user to be able to do something like this, but it's not as accurate and you still have to figure out all the maths yourself, setup bone chains, etc. Because this is a specific tool, it takes care of pretty much everything for you.

The evendor I use (SWReg) make it a condition of the rate I'm using to have that EDS automatically put in someone's basket during checkout. I hate it and I've asked them to remove it, but they just wont. This is why on my webpage I have text in bold with a red outline saying
Note: The e-commerce system used, swreg, automatically adds an extra item called 'extended download service' to the basket. Feel free to remove this when in the swreg checkout.
There's no more I can really do about it I'm afraid.
