SpeedEdit Missing Projects

Problem Description
If the files related to a project cannot be found when trying to load the project. This could happen under the following conditions:
  • SpeedEdit has been re-installed.
  • Files related to the project have been moved or renamed.
  • SpeedEdit has been upgraded.

Specific Symptoms

  • If SpeedEdit attempts to load a project but does not find all the files associated with it, the overall layout of the project will still show up on the timeline, but red-framed placeholders will stand-in for the missing files.
  • Or you may notice your list of previously loaded projects is empty.
  • Or you may navigate to where the project should be, only to find the folder empty.

Steps to Fix / Workaround
  • If your project is missing assets (clips, stills, etc…) and you know where they are to be found on the computer then you can replace the place holders with the actual files.

This can be done by using the “Inherit” feature in SpeedEdit.

  1. Begin by navigating to the missing files in your FileBin.
  2. Then hold-down the Alt key (you may need to check the keyboard shortcuts for your version) while doing this click and drag the file over the appropriate placeholder in your storyboard or timeline.
  3. Now let go of the file and the alt key, the item should now drop in place replacing the red-framed placeholder, and retaining the edits performed on the clip.

  • If you have recently reinstalled or upgraded SpeedEdit, the list of previously loaded files may have been cleaned out. This will require you to navigate to your project files and load them.
  • If you navigate to the last known location of your project files and nothing is there they may have been deleted. If you have a back up stored then you will want to retrieve it.
  • Otherwise look in the project folder for an “Undo/Redo” folder. As a last resort you can load in the most current “Undo/Redo” file onto your timeline. The undo/redo stack will be treated as a Sub-Project
meaning you will need to drill into it so you can see all the parts of your project.
