Role: 3D Generalist

Full time – in-house – hybrid – remote – freelance

Salary: DOE

Software: Lightwave, Maya, Blender, After Effects, Photoshop.

Job description:

Established in 2005, Dynamo Limited is a creative services studio working with some of the biggest names in the entertainment, product, and publishing industries. Based in the centre of Exeter, Devon, the company is made up of a core in-house team of project managers, 3D artists/animators, writers, designers, and illustrators, plus over 70 external freelance contributors. We work on all manner of interesting projects, in a demanding, client-led environment, handling established production pipelines and workflows, often under pressure and to tight deadlines. Our impressive list of clients, including Mattel, Hasbro, Entertainment One, Universal/DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, and Aardman (to name but a few) are testament to the quality of our work and reflect the profile of the projects we undertake.

We are urgently seeking experienced CG generalists to join our growing 3D department on either a full-time or freelance basis, who are UK based and available for immediate and on-going work.

What we are looking for:

We expect you to have an in-depth working knowledge in all aspects of 3D, so that you can independently and confidently solve technical problems and help set up and deliver projects to a production-ready standard. This includes being conversant in modelling, texturing, rigging, UV mapping, posing, lighting, rendering and animation (both technical and character-based).

  • For the animation part of the role, it is important that you are confident in character-based keyframing to portray emotion/reactions/gestures/facial expressions, realistic weighting to body movement and exaggerated animation curves if the style requested is more comic in nature. As we take on a huge variety of projects there is also the occasional need for simpler technical animation (infomercials, product walkthroughs, instructional videos etc).

  • We predominantly work in Maya, Lightwave and Blender so expertise in one or a combination of these is preferential, however we are also open to candidates who use other 3D modelling and animation software, as it is more important to us that you are familiar with the overall process.

Experience in digital sculpting or specialist VFX programs/plugins (cloth dynamics, hair grooming, fluid simulation, VDB’s etc), After Effects (for compositing, motion graphics and effects) and Photoshop (for file layering, creating textures or touching up final renders) is preferred, but not essential.

We do not require any formal qualifications or specific length of experience, instead we value your knowledge with the software, and technical skills necessary to be able to complete the work, therefore we encourage anyone with any relevant experience, and a portfolio that demonstrates your creativity and capability, to apply for this position.

What we offer:

  • This role offers you the opportunity to be involved in a fast paced, vibrant working atmosphere, with colleagues who collaborate and support each other to not only fulfil a diverse range of client briefs, but also to express their individual creativity, grow their industry knowledge, and become an integral member of a dynamic team of creatives.

  • For full-time staff, we offer a range of employee benefits, including; 25 days holiday + bank holidays, office shut down over Christmas and New Year, an employee pension scheme, a NHS top-up medical scheme with WPA (after the first year of employment), as well as several staff perks throughout the year – such as Christmas parties and fun days-out.

  • We are currently looking to grow our existing 3D department with fresh, new talent, creating the chance for the right applicant to join our constantly developing team of staff and external freelance contributors. Therefore, this role offers an exciting opportunity to get involved in projects working for big-name clients all over the world.

  • An in-house position is preferable and would ideally suit someone who is local, but we are set up for remote working, so providing you can travel to the studio when required, a flexible combination of the two is also acceptable.

Responsibilities of the role:

Reporting to the Creative Director and the Head of 3D, after a short initial settling-in period, you will be expected to hit the ground running and get involved in a number of high-profile projects of a varied nature. You might be required for example, to re-pose and adapt existing TV show assets, model new characters or props from provided sketches, create environments and stills, develop animated shorts based on supplied storyboards, or create technical animations based on written descriptions. Therefore, it is important that you have artistic and technical flare, high attention to detail and a keenness to learn and challenge yourself in an exciting and evolving industry.

How refreshing to see is this?

I wish more studios valued this, and LightWave artists.

If I had an up to date portfolio (I've really got to get that sorted out), I'd probably apply on a remote freelance basis.

Kudos to them. 👍
