Creating the look of "The Flash" running

I am trying to figure out how to best create the effect used of the Flash running? I am looking for the "streaks" that trail behind him and then catch up to him. An example would be from the CW TV show or even the original cartoon. Any suggestions or tutorials you can give would be truly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

That's all done as a post process in a compositing program such as After Effects rather than in Lightwave. You should be able to easily find tuts on that I'd think.
