64 bit Windows Media File Support

I cannot make a Windows Media Video file on my XP 64 system. I asked and was told that it cannot do that. Well, why is the option still in the drop-down? Why can't it? I render out a QuickTime full-res then drop it into Adobe Media Encoder to convert it. But if I downgrade my system to 32 bit I can do it. HUH? Please someone write a plug-in or something.
