View Full Version : Online degree/college teaching LightWave
Hi,
I think my company would pay for something like this but I do not know if there are any on-line schools who are teaching LightWave.
Can someone help me with this?

so go to one that doesn't teach LW. Don't limit yourself to one program.

But I want to learn LightWave. LightWave is cheap and I have it at home and well there is million other reasons. ;)

What Andy is saying is very valuable advice, though. I know what you are saying. I love to work in lightwave just as much as the next guy. But, if you are going to get free training through your employer, I would jump all over it. Regardless of what they are using for software. Especially in these hard times. The Academy of Arts (http://online.academyart.edu/animation.html) offers an online class that I have heard many great things about. They teach Maya though... I would be enrolled now, but they are aware that I am already in another college and said that they thought it best to leave the college I'm in now and sign up with them or wait until I'm done and do it after.
I am 30 and I am busy man and in LightWave case I can learn advanced stuff already - I do not think I will be able to learn rigging in Maya anytime soon. :)
Those are the reasons why I want to stick with LightWave.
Thank you for all advices and I hope someone will come with the school with LightWive on board.

Move to States, go to Dave school. I'd do that if I were you. Trying to achieve academic level in 3D is pretty awkward way to go.
I, for example, wanted both, so I learned LW on my own and gain BA in Design as a side note. I did it just to reduce amount of people asking me what qualifications I have for my job and for personal achievement.
I've heard some good things about Bournemouth University and I found Escape studio courses in UK very impressive, although not LW.
Focus on type of work you want to do and not the software, as you'll most likely use more than one 3D package in production environment.
Good luck!
I am working in LightWave - UK, full time, and becouse my company will pay for university (even more I will have some paid time off to do the course) I might be intrested in attending but as long it will be LightWave (ZBrush mb) and online.

What about taking some compositing classes............. or some other skill that will increase your value to your employer.
