View Full Version : Roller blind
Does anybody know how to make a roller blind that rolls up realistically? e.g the blind needs to go up a bit, and then drop a little as the pulley is tugged to release the mechanism. And then - when released - roll up and go out of shot. It needs to have good 'natural' movement as opposed to looking like a linear wipe (It's to be used as a wipe device for TV). Come to think of it I don't know why they don't shoot a real roller-blind on chroma key! but then I guess I'd have no work...

er, animate it ?
-all you need is a flat blind with bottop stiffener and fancy pul/tassel thing, moving vertivally - down a bit then up - with a simple clip map on world coordinates to 'dissapear' it at the back of the roller, which you just have to spin at the right speed.
To make it really simple (without writing a script to rotate it) when you make the roller work out the distance between the points round the circumference and when you make the blund, make it with divisions of the same length so that you can match the rotation by eye.
Then the only difficult bit it matching the texture roungd the roller to that up the blind.

There is an unroll parchment Tutorial somewhere for Lightwave... sounds similar...
Thanks for the advice!... In the end I had a look at the parchment tutorial and it was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I thinking of using bones anyway...
