SubPatch problems

Can anyone explain why this subpatch is acting funny on the left side. The right side when subpatch is turned on looks like it should but the left has those oval shapes and I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Yes I am new to this so any help will be greatly appreciated

here is the polys after subpatching, notice the incomplete patching on the left hand side

Those areas where the sub patches are not smooth stem from the edges of those patches not sharing points. This might be that the points are in the identical position, just not welded together, or perhaps they are in slightly diferent positions. Try doing a 'merge points,' if that is not successful, select each pair of errant points, and weld them together.

Joeh, thanks for the tip. A simple merge points before subPatching solved the problem.

Looks like the Head Construction tutorial in Dan Ablans "Inside Lightwave 7". I found this tutorial very informative and relatively easy to follow.

Dont forget to post images of your finished Head mdoel when you're done.

It is exactly that. It seems everyone is pretty familiar with the book. I will post more as I get it completed
