I'm getting my first job working on a creature for an independent film. Just finally got lightwave 9 and updated to v9.6.
Here's the first render after about half an hour of work, (and getting used to lw 9.

it's barely at the crits and coms stage yet but if anyone has anything, feel free to say it.

A quick critique:

Vary the textures over different parts of the body. Example-- joints and head may be smoother. A quick way of doing this (without the laborious task of UVMapping) would be to use a weight map, and apply (or not apply) textures.

Creates a more organic texture using procedurals.

i think you should go back a few steps and rework the modeling using reference and following some anatomy. right now, it doesn't look much like anything. It's head works, but body lacks anatomical form. Maybe you could follow some human body modeling tutorials and search for inspiring images of alien beings, textures, skinny humans for reference. I guess youre modeling straight from your head right now. use reference! draw sketches! preparation is just as important as modeling itself.
Hope this critique helps you improve your work; )

Can you brighten up the renders a little, it's so dark hard to see any of the details, but it's looking pretty freaky from what i can see! The mouth on the stomach would make filling your belly easier! :) Direct deposit to tummy please!

Yeah, I'm designing it so it kind of breathes with its stomach--it's constantly inhaling and exhaling.
