View Full Version : Wine W.I.P
Here is a project I am working on.
It still needs lots of work, but I have a question: How do you get glass to look thick??
should I add more refraction??

Well the bottles look very good already.
I can't give you technical detail as I don't really know for sure, but I think to get the feeling of thickness you would do something like this:
Make a copy of the bottle and flip the polygons so they face inward - and shrink the bottle down a bit so it fits inside. Name these flipped polygons "air"
If this is wrong, then someone please correct me.
As I said I can't give you settings as I don't know how to do it myself except that I do know the refraction setting is different for "air" than for "glass".
Oh, I just remembered - I have a book on photorealistic texturing by Bill Fleming at home which I think covers this - if no-one else has posted here before then I will post back with what it says in there.
Anyway, a nice start to your image!
Adrian.

When you do the final render don't forget to turn caustics on. The only other comment that I have for you is that your background looks weird where the extruded half disk meets the box at the back. I looks like a smoothing error. Try changing your smoothing to 30% on the surface to see if it changes. Also if you get the chance, and I know that this is a work in progress still, but it was bugging me is the lack of character to the wallz behind the bottles not sure if it's important or not.

Here is the latest rendering.
I have verry little time to work on this so it is taking a long time.

The bottles are looking great. The liquid looks fairly good but a little like water. Maybe give it some tint to look a bit more like wine?
Nothing else I can add - looking good!
Adrian.

The bottles, as in the glass, do look good but once again are looking pretty clean and flawless, you might want to try some procedurals on the spec channel.

I will be making adjusments, and off couser LABELS.

I'd like to see that cork a little closer, it looks good, even appears to be stained or wet at the base.
Here is a close-up of the corks.

one thing looking at the reflections, i noticed that there is a polar type pinch. look at the edge of the window how it converges to a point? perhaps you need to tweek the seam angle.
