Nice!
Dark, musky, scary some lightning and thunder would be nice.
Little bit difficult to get the scale since there is no reference object.
I might try the tutorial myself, look fun.

The one thing I would mention is the linear ripples running along the surface are a bit too uniform, they need breaking up a little, but it definitely feel like here be monsters....

Can't remember exactly, but it wasn't overly long. MAYBE an hour or two?
Very nice! I think you really are onto something well done. Really I think it's close to passing for perfect storm like stuff with a little work.
