I don't watch it, crap music and too much tactical voting.

It appears to be a intracontinental singing competition in Europe.

Just watched it at night and i mast to admit it's was first time then i wasn't bored to death by this contest ... Really nice songs this year and hey, Russians did great job by build that terrific scene ...

Also liked Estonia and GB but Norway guy was the best for sure ... Also Russian song was great too (I'm Ukraine/Russian speaking and song was half Ua and half Ru) but the video on BG was strange and not contributed at all ...

Pity for Patricia Kaas - this contest simply not right format for her ...

yeah i thought the quailty of the songs was really good across the board..i didn't lke the norway song...too "shouty" for my ears

Well i like it ... Armenia was quite strange but nice collaboration of ethnic an modern music, Azerbajann - too middle east for me :)
German song in video clip is much better and even contribution by Dita von Teese (http://www.dita.net/top.php) didn't helped them - it's was rumor that she going to remove most of her clothes and director filmed only band and not her ...

Ukraine this time was bizarre ... Our Israeli girls fine but not like diva ...

Well im loosing more and more interest every year taht goes by for these events, I didn´t follow the swedish contest and I hated the song performed
by our swedish singer.

I didn´t follow the international finals either except hearing short reruns of
the songs, but judging by that I could only hear one good melody and yeah
guess what 12 points goes to norway:)

It actually feelt like a melody from the old time´s song contest mixed with
folc music..and I actually prefer the old songs wich had more melody and charm to it than todays spectacle with silly costumes or silly dances.
Well ya.. they had those silly things too back in the ages but it was with
a different charm I think.

Save all your kisses for me..save all your kisses for me, by by honey by bye.
or....
sing ding ding dong..:)

Edit..oh I forgot one of my old faves..mouth mc neal, I see a star..they came second after Abba´s waterloo.

Missed it. I totally forgot about it. Last time i watched it, Serbia won, some two years ago. It's usually those highly contagious songs that win.

I was involved in making music video for Bosnian entry Regina (http://www.eurovision.tv/event/artistdetail?song=24673&event=1480), did some of the flags and some other promotional material. Pretty good song.

Cheers!

I thought the songs were awful as usual but the set, entertainment and overall design were amazing.

I suppose the music wasn't as bad as it has been (if you like that kind of thing) but most people in the UK aren't bothered about that and have traditionally tuned in to hear Wogan taking the pi$$ out of Euro-pomp in his gentle style. Graham Norton tried to fill his shoes and to be fair, almost managed it.

The U.S. needs to come up with something like that .... anything goes style contest ... you would end up with couple of blue grass songs, country, maybe a bit of jazz , rap, perhaps some Latin style performers … and with Metallica representing California.

They say that Gay rights play a huge role in the voting!

Just whats the correlation beats me! But perhaps its them voting the most!

Surprised its still going. Its called eurovision so whats Russia and Israel doing in it and other european countries not in it.

Maybe it should really be a faceoff between real real singers and groups and not made up ones

I believe euro refers to Europe as continent and not European Union.

Well, geographically Israel isn't in Europe, it is in Asia... ;)

Well, they aren't in Africa or Asia neither, so they can choose I guess :D

Lots of Europeans consider Turkey to be Asian country too if you take Ural and Black sea as natural divider. But I wouldn't take Eurosong to be relevant political measure.

That's due to the EBU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Broadcasting_Union) having members outside of Europe, even though it started out in Europe.

Hey, the World Series isn't a world-wide event either ;)

Cheers,
Mike

The World Series or Eurovision?

I think with the right crowd (and plenty of alcohol) Eurovision can be a load of fun. Heck, apparently some people even think Karaoke is fun... ;)

Well, sure it is ... it is just nobody else bothers to attend ...so by definition whoever wins , becomes a world champion.

Actually it isn't, it's a brand name:

Actually it is ... or at least used to be :-)

The explanation is that when the term "World's Championship Series" was first used in the 1880s, baseball at a highly-skilled level was almost exclusively confined to North America, especially the United States. Thus the winner of the top major–league championship was understood to be the best baseball team in the world. The title of this event was soon shortened to "World's Series" and later to "World Series".

Some of my family used to have Euro nights, admittedly spawned by some gay friends, in which everyone would put in some crap prizes, we'd do a lucky dip with the entrants and the people with the top five countries would win a prize...lots of booze and lots of fun.

I haven't seen it for a few years and I can't imagine it without Wogan's pissy comments.

cresshead
05-19-2009, 10:17 AM
that graham norton did a similar job being 'pissy' except on the whole his comments fell really flat as most of the songs were actually well written for a change..i actially have three of them on itunes>> iceland, armenia and ababijjan ..i did not like the uk entry and the winner was waay too shouty..no i dea how that won...maybe the eye brows of the singer did it for the girlies!
