View Full Version : Yet another (probably) dumb question
VT3 - copied the media clips from the cd to my video drive. When I put them up in the time line, the video says wait for a long time (minutes). the audio says wait forever and has flatlined as best as I can tell. They play ok in WM9 with sound, but video without sound in DDR and VTEdit. What am I missing?
My RTV's I record play back fine V and A.
What format are the video & audio clips in??

If you can upload and provide a link to that video clip, I'd be happy to do an alien autopsy on the file, to see if there's something conflicting between the file and our code.

The content clips from the CD are protected, (read only). As a result VT[3] tries to render the waveform but can't overwrite the protected files.
The quickest method to fix this is to exit VT[3], (to release any file locks), go the content directory, (using Windows explorer or your favorite directory utility program), and delete the entire 'Newtek Info' subdirectory. When you restart VT[3], it will have no problem now recreating the audio waveform display and you will be up and running in seconds.
(Ex: If you copied the the content CD to a partition labeled 'V:' and to a folder called 'Content', then you should delete the folder called: 'V:\Content\Clips\Newtek Info'.)
Hi Gordon,
You are right on, when I copied them from the Media CD, their copy protected status came over with them. A little work in explorer fixed the files, they all work fine now. Appreciate the help, would not have thought to look at the file attribuites, or that VTEdit would care.
Paul, the files are the tutorial files supplied on the media CD that came with VT3.
Thanks for clearing this up, may save a lot of time in the future when people supply AVI's on a CD.

Your welcome.A little work in explorer fixed the files, they all work fine now.
I like to use 'Turbo Navigator' or 'Directory Opus' for this type of stuff. I just selected the directory, 'V:\Content' and it has a menu choice to 'Change Attributes', which I selected, made sure the 'Read only' attribute was unchecked and then set the option to apply changes to all subdirectories. In a second all files in all subdirectories of 'V:\Content' had the read only flag removed.
