I am trying to make a textured glass effect. Like that kind of pebbled look that you get on bathroom windows.
Have tried applving a bump map but it gets completely ignored.
Anybody out there done this?

Well, to check the obvious first, you have got rendering set to raytrace reflection and refraction I trust?
And while you are at it be sure to reduce the number of ray bounces in ray trace optimisation, or you will still be waiting for the the first pixel arrive tomorrow!

Ah you must mean the old safety glass. Well you could try subdividing your pane of glass a couple of times. Then under object properties check Bump Displacement ? now add a nice globule bump map and voila! and if you want to get that nice steel mesh look inside the pane try creating a sheet of wire mesh using splines. I will try to find some of my old test that I did a while back.:)

Hi,
Refraction is the key. If you don't have refraction switched on then the bump doesn't shift the transparency as real glass would and so appears to have no effect.
Check out our Pshelf Glass collection if you want to know how to create the ultimate in sexy glass with Lightwave.

Hi arnoldawson,
Try jacking up the bump amount, it seems to work for me. See attached.

Thanks everyone for your help.
I am obliged to Head Worm for jogging my memory, as being a stupid idiot I had completely forgotten to asign a refraction value to the glass.
Too many late nights waving. ;)
