Just getting around to begin thinkin 'bout opening the XP pro box (I've had for 9 months) to see if I really want to go through the agony of upgrading my OS...

Any suggestions regarding my Video Toaster [2] software?

I have a Supermicro dual Xeon with 2 GB ECC and dual SCSI MB controller with 4 U160's striped, a U160 for OS and a 60 GB IDE for misc storage. Graphics is Gforce 4 TI 4600. Logitech cordless keyboard and optical mouse. Running Windows 2K pro now. All home-cobbled...

C'mon save me some pain guys.

I did the upgrade from Win2k to XP Pro - it was fine! no problems, and now I have Hyper threading operational and this seemed to solve all sorts of little glitchy problem - for me anyway. Make sure you get all the current security patches installed, there are many worms and viruses on the go right now - not a problem if you keep your VT machine off the 'Net'

Are you havving problems with your 2KPro that would justify a knock-down, drag-out fight with a new OS installation?
I know it's a trite saying... but if it's not broke, don't fix it! :D

Hoping to streamline some of the communications between a couple of my systems and my Toaster system. I know it will be some work. Looking for specific pitfallls experienced by others.
Thanks.:D

I've been beta testing Microsoft operating systems since Win 95 (codename "Chicago"). Each successive OS has had a smoother and smoother install routine. XP's is so slick, you can get it started, and then it needs zero intervention through to completion. I was startled when I did have one XP install that blue-screened on me, but it turned out to be a faulty CPU.

I'd say go for it; it's not a painful experience at all.

My 2 cents. Don't do an upgrade, but take this opportunity to do a fresh install. Even if you only have XP Pro upgrade disk you can install it fresh, just have a 2K disk handy in case it ask for it. I like to reinstall about once a year or so just to clean the junk out and make the machine run faster. There is a "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" that will help get you going faster. It can be copied from the XP disk and run on your 2K machine prior to the install.

Hey thanks,
The file and settings transfer utility sounds like it could be a real help. I have been thinking of a fresh install, for all of your reasons and more.
Thanks for the helpful suggestions.:D :D :D
