View Full Version : Trigger simultaneous DDR's or Multicam?

Is there any way that I can trigger two DDRs to start at exactly the same time with VT[3]?
I'd like to 'fake' a live production by running the DDR streams through the switcher as if they were camera feeds and record program out to a new RTV file.
Unless there's now some kind of multicam edit solution for VT... ?
What I do now is double-click on each camera track to preview it and then create markers to indicate clips that I want to use or discard, and then do razor cuts later.
The problem comes when you want to choose the better of two or more camera takes, and for that it would help to be able to see the footage at the same time.
Thanks.

And even a 4-camera edit is workable. I still have to set markers and do the razor cuts, but at least I can see all the material while I'm working on it! I did this using VT[3]'s positioner tool and the CG and then mark out and in on the clips I wish to edit to. If anyone wants more details on the technique, I'll be happy to write something up later.

I'm betting there will be a lot interest in your approach! Better get writing.....

You can do a 'local' scrub of a particular clip (but this still does not allow you to see 2 or more at same time.
Actually, the other day I posted (in Feature Requests) the idea of having a button on the tVision that would show a specific clip in ted. you could then assign a vision to each clip (or perhaps they could create a 'multicam filter' - one that would take each clip & perform a 'temporary' resize like you have done. Guess you ould save this in the toolshed somehow?

If you have two computer monitors in your VT3 system and you are doing two cameras, you might consider using 3 Vt-Edit panels and 3 VT Visions. I placed two VT Edits and a VT Vision for each on one CRT and put the 3rd VT-Edit and VT-Vision on the second CRT. In the Switcher, I assigned one VT-Edit to Program, one to Preview, and one to the DSK. I aligned the two VT-Edits so one was above the other. I placed the clips from each of two cameras into these two VT-Edits. and aligned them to the same starting time code. While I cannot view them simultaneously, I work by dragging thru a short section (about 5 seconds) of material in one VT Edit, then view the same time code section in the other VT-Edit and its VT Vision. I razor, highlight, then do a Copy and then I Past the clip into VT Edit #3. So obviously I am assembling the final in VT Edit #3. I can view it in its VT Vision (or make changes in the Switcher).

I'll post a step-by-step for this in a few days. It has sped things up for me tremendously!

not having done this yet... he said: you could scrub all on the timeline, identify your cut points with a timeline Mark, adding a comment like which camera to take... right?

You really don't even have to make a comment. You just mark the camera clip you're going from and the one you're going to. The other clips will already have been marked out. Once you perform razor on all the clips then you determine the first shot from each camera that you're going to use and then delete every other one after that. Your cuts-only edit is done. Tweak a little if need be, and then add transitions, cg, etc. Finally, move the clips back to their default size and position and turn overlay off ...!
