someone said maya can do this but what about lightwave?
Is there somewhere in Lightwave that allows you to record the history of your model being built to use in layout? so in layout your model is being built in front of you. If so please point me in that direction, if not whats another way to do this besides actually taking screen shots of each frame as you model.

Get your hands on an autosave/incremental save LScript, that saves your model with incremental numbers, ie Face001, Face002 and then use the object replace plugin in Layout to animate the action.

If the Hub worked on the Mac it would be a solution for this, but the autosave options for the Hub don't work...

You can't record as you build a model, but like mlinde suggested, you can just save out incremental changes as separate object files. Here's a link that may interest you:

http://www.blochi.com/gfx/obj_seq_en.html

It's a script that you can use to show your object being built in Layout. Basically, it's nothing you can't do already within LW, but it's handy because it automates a few things for you.

Actually, it's a good thing I tested this before posting. For whatever reason, it seems that the ObjectSequencer command in Layout is non-functional in OSX. Now that I think of it, I remember complaining about this a while ago. It's functional in Windows, and IIRC is functional in OS9, but not OSX. Bummer.

*edit* The ObjectSequencer command is present, but when you select it from the drop-down list, it still says "none". The ObjectList command seems to have similar problems. Can anyone else confirm this on OSX? I don't think it's just me, but I just want to make sure.

*edit#2* Okay, I actually just ran a search on this subject and (thanks to mlinde) discovered that even though the command doesn't appear to stick and still says "none" even when you select it, it does otherwise work exactly as it should, i.e. you need to make a preview or render your scene to see the objects being replaced.
