I know this type of thing has been beaten to death, but this was my first time experimenting with HDR environments and was a great opportunity to learn LW materials. So I thought I'd share.

I tried to make the chrome a little crusty, just for fun.

Cool. It looks like the sphere is being illuminated from the inside.

Yeah.. but i think it is because camera angle. Yo donīt see anything but sphere and floor... if you could see more, maybe sky, I thing you could appreciate the reflection effect.
I like it!... and depth of field blur is great!
Looks great, love the feel.

Looks cool. I did one (who hasen't? :D )some years ago to learn abot fresnel shader.
I still have it: ball.avi - cinepack compressed (http://www.digital-ray.dk/ball.avi)

How about a quick description of the surfacing techniques you used? Especially how you did the scratches and got the reflection all blurry.
