View Full Version : MPEG2 NTSC to DV PAL, in TriCaster STUDIO 2.5 - or Must Go to SpeedEDIT?

Hi all. An associate wants to take a recorded MPEG2-Intra clip (4:2:0 colorspace) he recorded on TriCaster STUDIO with 2.5 upgrade -- and from that, make a DV PAL clip available to a client in Western Africa.
Question is, what's the easiest method to accomplish this, as he'd *really* like to make the conversion within his TriCaster STUDIO 2.5.
Is that at all possible? If so, how does he go about it?
If not, I suppose he could...
1. export that NTSC 4:3 MPEG2-I file into his SpeedEDIT machine, then
2. Create a new SpeedEDIT project with DV 4:3 PAL setting
3. Render Clip as 4:3 PAL
4. Send that rendered DV 4:3 PAL video to his client in Camaroon (that's in Western Africa) on a DVD data disc.
...Unless you folks have a better idea...
Ideas welcome; Thanks in advance, all.

But he'd really like to make this conversion all inside TriCaster STUDIO. Is this currently possible and if so, how does he go about performing this within TriCaster STUDIO EDIT MEDIA?
By the way, I'm not currently seated before a 2.0 TriCaster STUDIO so as to investigate this, on my own so I thought to ask for help.
Any takers? TIA

Since you have an International version of TriCaster, have you tried this:
- reboot the system into PAL mode
- Load the NTSC clip in the DDR
- Begin recording your session and now PLAY that clip in the DDR.
The clip you record will be PAL!

The clip you record will be PAL!Sorry, Paul. No international TriCaster STUDIO available to me at this time; but what a nifty suggestion for inclusion in the TriCaster Tricks and Tips Forum. I'll add it now.

I think a similar trick would work if you drop the clip into Edit Media after switching the TC to PAL mode, and then you could render it to a PAL file.

Granted; but that would be true only if one has an International TriCaster model, I believe. Thanks for the added insight nonetheless, Steve.
Oh, OK. Your and Paul's responses, Stever, seem to suggest that an NTSC TriCaster is not currently equipped to transcode from the TriCaster's native NTSC clip, to PAL MPEG2-I nor PAL AVI at all -- not in LIVE PRODUCTION, nor via the EDIT MEDIA panel, :tsktsk:
...unless I'm totally missing something...
Oh well.

What Steve said.
I've sold several Speed edits to a TV station in Nigeria solely for the purpose of ntsc/pal conversion, but sadly there isn't a way in a non multi-standard TriCaster.

How do you know if your TriCaster is an International version?

There will be PAL options in the Config pane opened from Admin (where you would go 4:3 or 16:9).
