I am replying fairly late to this question, but if you haven't been able to solve the problem maybe I can help.

When you say you can't see the files, do you mean you can't see them in the file requester? If that is the problem, you need to make sure you change the "Files of type:" pull-down menu at the bottom of the requester so that it reads "All Files" rather than just "Images". You should then be able to see the .ddf files that comprise an SDTS dataset. You can select any one of those .ddf files and the SDTS reader will grab the information it needs from the appropriate files.

If that is not the problem you are having, give me just a little more information and I'll try to get you going. You can also find the web page describing the plugin at:

Problemo solved

Thank you very much,

For the record, for some reason (I am sure Microsoft must know) xp pro on my machine in xp mode does not give you the choice over file types so by reverting to classic mode, you then get the choice over file types, strange no !.
I do not want to get in to the whole platform debate (I work on both) some times I wish along with the other 200 million folks that Microsoft would take on board the old adage of "don't fix it, if it aint broke"

Many thanks again

The other option you have is to alter Lightwave's config files so that .ddf files are considered Image files by Lightwave and therefore should show up in the file requester.

To do that, you can load the lw3.cfg and lwm3.cfg files into a text editor and look for the line that starts with "FileType Images" in each of those cfg files. There should be a bunch of file extensions on that same line such as "*.iff;*.jpg;*.tga;*.flx", etc. Just add a ";*.ddf" to the end of those lines and the next time you run Layout and/or Modeler, they should consider .ddf files as image files and show up by default in the file requester.
