In C4d i have seen my friend do an instance of a light and when he changes one they all change, how do u do this in layout? Would save me heaps of time.:D

You cannot do that in LightWave, since in LW there are no instances whatsoever - neither objects, bones nor lights can be "instanced". In LW the spread sheet is your friend. However, not all light parameters are available there, so a little planning before setting up your scene is still needed.

Side note: From a strictly mathematical standpoint lights in C4D (Maya, XSI etc. also) are not instances (since they have no geometry). They are copies, but maintain the link to the original light they were created from.

I want to be able to clone one light to about 8 and adjust the one light which does the rest as well.

Have you checked out Richard Brak's expressions tutorials? I know there's a way to do it with expressions - you might be able to do it with things like channel follower or cycler in the graph editor: envelope the intensity of the light, open the graph editor and apply modifiers in there

hey ! I figgered it out!

starting with one light, envelope the intensity, key it at 0 and 1, clone it, re-name one to be the 'leader', go into the graph editor and select the intensity channel for the 'following' light, go to the 'expressions' tab, click 'new', and the word "value" pops in, that's where you type:
Value=[leader.Intensity]
then hit 'apply'

Only works when the leading light has keyframes tho

Wow! cool!

put a null in the scene, change the lights' envelope expression to :
Value=[Null.Position.Y]

now move the null up and down - sweet!
or attach it to a slider - :cool:

As said before, the spreadsheet editor is the way to go, imho mucho better than C4D's attempt.
