Hi to all...
this is my second try to make a decent model. It is a kind of sexy-cartoon-manga-egyptian-female-god ( :D )... well... not a realistic one in my intention...
What do you think?
P.s.: sorry for my poor english... :p

It's a pretty nice model. How'd you do the hair? And is this Bast, the cat goddess?
There are just a couple of things I noticed. First and most obviously, the breasts. They look less like breasts and more like helium ballons with nipples. Silicone implants weren't the biggest fad back in the egyptian deity days. Perhaps, it might be a bit sexier if they seemed real.
The base of the thumbs look a little thick which makes her hand look a bit stumpy. Perhaps it's just the angle I'm seeing it from.
Other then the neck piece, it doesn't seem egyptian to me. I could almost see her as an elvin character rather then an egyptian deity. I think it's the loin cloth that doesn't work. Perhaps a gold wrap of some kind for her lower body might seem more godly. Something along the lines of the picture below.

yeah... and they don´t have that ears!.. and those faces!... nobody looks like that! :(
... but don´t worry if you model don´t look like a real life! .. is a imaginary character! :p
I like this boobs! :D ... they make her more atractive!

Thanks all boys...
Hair are all poligonal meshes, extruded polygons with Magic Bevel using "Delete Knots" and "Edit path", with an automatic UVMap and a simple transparency map.
The breast is effectively large, but my idea was to realize a cartoon character... you know... those beautiful big-breasted manga females ;) ... I love them... :D
Ufff... sorry for my terrible english...
I hope that you have understood

Don´t worry
Many people here don´t speak english very good (include me)!

hair looks so great!
I think it was Sasquatch!
I can´t imagine how do you do that with polygons!
Great works!
I want to see her animated, and with textures!

thanks... well... no problem for texturing (I'll work on it when the model is ended), but i'm sorry for animation, my goal is not animation but high resolution render for graphic print (I'm a professional illustrator here in Italy).
See you

mmm…
good model but 2 things that for me makes this girl not sexy at all :
- breasts : I agree with hrgiger, they're really too big !! I would'nt dare
touch such kind of them… let's stop a bit the silicon valley fashion !
- stomachal muscles : well I there also would be afraid ! for me a woman's stomach should be smooth and sweet, wow there it's too fitness ! This is not Miss World but Miss muscle !
C'mon man, look around you !!!!
The women of your country are obviously the most
sensual and attractive of the world, at least of all Europe (fortunately my - french/belgian - wife is not in my back when I write this:D ),
please make some effort !
I'd love to you know what ? Just guess you're italian looking at the pic !:D
PS : sorry if too much crits, anyway the modeling is very good.

I agree with you, but this is not a "real" woman, but a kind of cartoon/comics character, and is too fun for me the modeling of this one.
The beauty of 3d is just while still alive to carry creatures who exist alone in the fantasy.
(sorry for my english... yet :D )

A goddess doing 60 push-ups a day ;)
I agree with the breasts, they are disproportional, especially looking at the lower part.. But hey, it's your fantasy;)
The ears are a bit thick too... Could be a fantasy too?
Pretty nice for your second model!

I wasn't meaning to imply that you have to stick with some kind of reality guideline so if you want to give her the pamela Lee manga girl, zero gravity jugs, it's your model.
Nor did I imply that the size of the breasts were the problem either. Women sometimes have big breasts. It's a beautiful thing.
I just think the zero gravity ballon breasts look a little silly, that's all. They just scream adolescent boy, never had a girlfriend fantasy breasts. Again, it's your model though.
The model looks nice and clean and I think you've done a great job with it. My real criticism though is that it doesn't really feel egyptian to me. Perhaps even just replacing the necklace for an ankh or something simple would do.
Just my .02 cents. Look forward to some updates.

It perfect just as it is. You know it looks just like my wife and I'm starting to get a little upset with the comments these guys are making, ;)
She (my wife that is) is a real cartoon sometimes too!

hrgiger... a friend of mine has said the same thing to me about the breast, I applied an endomorph ('cause i want to save the original breast, i like it very much) to the breast in order to make it small.
I'll show you an update later.
Thanks for the feedback ;)

Thanks to all... I'll fix the feet, but I'm in trouble with the skin (sss, translucency and other skin stuff).
Anyone have some suggestion to make some good sss whith the basic tool of LW? I can't use plug-ins for sss because i'm working on a mac and those plugs (Ska, Ogo-ikari, etc.) works only under Win...
And G2 is too expensive for me at the moment.
Anyway... thanks ;)

nice work,
no, VERY nice work :)
only little crits : agree about the feet and I wonder if the tail should be kept in that kind of "erection", I guess it could rather fall down you know to give a "smoother" feeling of the character (er…sorry for my english)
now for the textures I'm not sure I'm able to give you advices,
but, well why not giving my feeling…
Actually at this stage if I was you I would'nt try right now to
finish "perfectly" the model, you know by adding very little subtle changes.
Of course you will have to do this but you might be at this step akind
of "prisonner" of your model and expectations and try tens of tests that won't satisfy you because you're too used to your character. Hope you get me…
I mean you could try to make VERY different versions of the texturing,
for example a very high level of specular on all the skin or, something that could
be surprising, why not trying a version with a reflective skin, or else radically change he color ( a red version, a white version…).
Al this to say not that you need to follow another track but only that making
radically different versions can help you to see what you really want yourself.
Example : make a 100% reflective skin and maybe you will mind that reflection
can add and then go back to your first version (the current one) and just add a very low level of reflexion (15% with a procedural texture for instance).
Hope you see what I mean…

08-23-2003, 07:54 AM
thanks for suggestion Lasco (where are you from? I'm courious... my english is ugly too :D ).
At this time i'm trying to get a way to obtain a credible skin using BRDF and Fast Fresnel on another character, only for testing... the results are quiet good... maybe i'll post some shots later...
Bye

08-23-2003, 09:57 AM
keep on posting the good work then
(mmm… I'd really be curious to see a mirror-reflection version of
this godess, just for the fun it could give here a kitsch feeling exactly like
the old Marvel's superheroes :)
I'm also curious to see how you use Fresnel on a character, I thought
it was only usefull for transparent surfaces…
oh I forgot something : can you tell me how you get that grain texture on the floor ? I mean I'd like to know if by chance you got it with procedurals or with a map… I often use such textures but always have to use maps and would like to
be able to do them with procedurals… so if you have any tips…
PS : I'm from Paris, France.
and do love italian landcapes, architecture, food… and women :)
yerathel
08-23-2003, 10:33 AM
Paris? I love Paris, i think is one of the most beautiful cityes in the world.
Well, the floor is a simple plane (a square), with three layer of procedural bump and a front/camera projection texture with the background image.
see the shot
lasco
08-23-2003, 10:56 AM
What is the front-camera image projection ?
Is it the "piano" layer ?
If I understand well the turbulence layer makes the "hills",
and the grain (sand looking) is due to the crumple and hetero terrain layers…
See the pic below, that's what interests me.
I often get the same kind of bump texture but have to use maps and
would be happy to do it only with procedurals…
Is this got with crumples and hetero terrain layers ?
yerathel
08-23-2003, 11:31 AM
Yes it is, simply apply layers of procedural bumps and play with settings.
Also do test renders to see what you are obtaining.
It's quiet simple...
the front proiection is a kind of texture that use the camera as a projection source based on the background image... well, is a little bit hard for me to explain in english.
If you are interesting in this type of surfacing, i suggest to look at this tutorial (http://www.geocities.com/kevman.geo/l65_tut1.html)

it's nice, very nice…
it looks like a real photo but… the trouble
is that it looks like the photo of a plastic muppet…
guess it's due to the mix between specular and grain bump on the skin…

This is real nice... I don't mind the texture as it makes her look like she is wearing paint... I think turning down the spec and gloss might add a little bit more realism but great job for sure! Keep it going.

Thankyou all boys... il'try to follow your suggestion... ;)
Great work, it's an excellent character. I like it a lot. You need to add some tonal range to the blue skin, at the moment it just looks like a thick coat of even blue. Sorry I haven't read the other posts so I'm not sure if this has been discussed already. But try using hand painted UV rather than a proceedurals.
Maybe someone else has some good links to UV tuts.
Take a look at the development of Philours's 'Mutant Cat' it will give you some idea of what is possible.
re: http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8013&highlight=mutant+cat
another good example is robpauza's shark
the surfacing really transforms these models. Click through the thread to see what I mean.

Nice model! Keep the breasts! She's a goddess, right? Means she probably can control the shape she takes right? Stands to reason she might go for really big, gravity-defying boobs and six-pack abs! Keep working on the texturing!

I think it looks "tits" man.
Reminds me of TSR's "dieties and demigods" handbook I used to own back in the ole' day's of D&D.
If I me be so bold, I can say that your skills mirror mine. Great modeling, surfacing needing something.
Do not get me wrong, I think it is a wicked expression and I really have to be an arse to find something wrong with it. It's just like mine... meaning the modeling is so great that anything but the best surfacing takes away from the whole...I can say this with a certain degree of certainty-a map for the diffuse channel would make a big difference in the "flesh factor."

Yup, cool it with the breasts. Check out some mid-range mens mags. (or real ones if you have access to them) Natural breasts don't hover Gravity pulls on them especialy when they become over sized as you have here. Historicaly Egyptian women are not big breasted (despite what Hollywood would have us believe)
Also the ears are a little too pointed for the cat look. they look like a cross between a Bat and Mr. Spock :-)

its funny how many people turn into experts as soon as people start modeling boobs..lol..
I think it works great, its a stylized image so it fits, the realism thing can be exagerted.. Atleast my character thinks so, he likes the ears (look at avatar :))

Why can't Cat chicks get boob jobs?
Anyway, the reason the picture needs the detailing to be realistic is because it is a cat chick. The more realistic the details, the more believable a cat chick is.

I think the model is awesome. The breasts are great. I think here eyes need a bit more attention. They could maybe look a little more translucent/glassy. Her eyes need a bit of a sparkle to give her more life. Otherwise everything is excellent.
You're probably thinking: with breasts like that, who's going to notice her eyes.
