Greetings All,

I am new to this forum, but not to Lightwave. I am using 8.0 - and I love it - but recently I have been having a problem with trying to render and save using QT .mov with the Avid Meridien Uncompressed or Compressed codec. I get the ever annoying Microsoft pop-up with: "lightwave.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience."

It does this just as it is about to add the first frame to the animation file during the render. Then the whole thing shuts down!

I'm running a Dell Precision 360, Pent 4, 3.0 Ghz, 1G ram, WindXP Pro SP2.

Any insights on how to rectify this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

CHW

It is possible the codec is one that lightwave can not access. I know lightwave was having issues with the h.264 codec for quicktime a while back. Not sure if that was ever fixed or not.
Anyway, you are better off rendering out as a image sequence and let another program save the sequence as a .mov file. The larger your animations are the more that will make sense.
That being said, if lightwave was not having any issue with your codec, lightwave could import the sequence and save the .mov file.
If your asking yourself why would you want to save as a sequence, then import it back into lightwave to save as a mov file. Instead of just saving it as a .mov file in the first place.
The answer is should your computer crash or the power goes out half way through your 2 day render. With .avi or .mov you would have to start again at frame 0. However with a image sequence, you can start at the frame that was last correctly saved. Saving you one full day of rendering.
I hope this helps, even though it doesn't really solve your codec issue.
