Why try and reinvent the wheel...

I am looking for the right codec combination for me to encode some video for web viewing... my project is about 4 min. long with lots of moving video.

I tried a few of the others but the quaility is really not that great I get what looks like interlace lines.

In the past I have used Windows Media but for some reason when I start to encode now (in VT3) my system locks up.

Any suggestions..

Do you mean you render the project to something else and then run it thru the separate Windows Media Encoder??

I'm also trying to find the best settings for a project very similar to the original poster using Toaster 2 (we haven't upgraded...yet).

Also wondering about rendering with overscan on in WM. Is there a way to do it? Everytime I render the project using Windows Media, it renders in underscan. The original tape was not very good so there is a lot of tearing in the underscan area I want to crop out.

Thanks!

I just downloaded the FREE windows media encoder program and yes it's true I encoded a 4 min video at full screen size and the resulting file was only 29mg. vs... out of VT3 using the WMV codec I did another full size render which made a 800mg. file and the thing is the 29meg. file looked better!!

YOu can go into the positioning panel & crop out a few lines of the picture. (Hold the Cntrl key down while dragging the sides or top/bottom of the clip

try mpeg1
all native mediaplayers on mac and intel can play w/o a download
toaster encodes well with tempeg
cost under $50
dosent crash other peoples computers

I don't seem to have an MPEG1 encoder.

I'm not that familiar with digital formats - too used to outputting to tape and I'm still confused with trying to do video for computers/web.

I have the codecs that come with the Toaster (2), Windows media encoder 9 and Divx 5.02.

What would be the best to use to render my project to?? Figured I could run it thru Windows Media Encoder after getting it out of the Toaster, but everything I try is *very* pixelated. The video is of soccer clips (a memorial for a player), so there is lots of action and lots of green (the green keeps pixelating badly).

And i know I could use positioning to clip off the bottom, but since the project is some 30 plus clips, seems a very awkward way of doing it. Can't I just turn on overscan rendering somewhere???

Thanks!

TMPGEnc can be gottem over the web
you can down load the trial version which does highquality mpeg 1 encoding
the full program costs under $50
you can see the streaming on my websight of lw animations

the url for TMPGEnc is http://www.pegasys-inc.com
there is a plug in with toaster to install 3rd party plugins into this
encoder
The plug in can also be found on the newtek website

We don't have the budget to buy something else right now - we are doing this project for free for the family of the boy who died. Is there anyway to do something similar or at least half way decent with what I have?

My original was a AVI wrapped TEd project

The wrapper works in tmpeg
use a separate audio output from toaster
the audio in the wraper does not work

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the free plug in sometime, but I actually did it in uncompressed BGR24 I saw recommended somewhere else then ran it thru Windows Media Encoder 9 and it worked fine.
