Heeellloo,

Here is the start of a black cat I'm modelling for 3 different comps shots in a short film mixed with a real cat. I'm going to be creating the cat to be photorealistic. So, any comments and critics are greatly appreciated. Right now I'm modeling it as if it was skinned so sasquatch can work properly.

Egyptian cats have big ears. Remember they (cats in general) have thin ears even at the base.

It looks like a chihuahua... Keep going! ;)

On a more serious note ;)

The nose sticks out way too much... cats have a more 'human nose' as far as length is concerned... A dog has a long snout... you see the effect?

Here's another pic...

It's looking pretty good so far.

hah.. I've been trying to figure out why it was looking like a dog for while and I think your right about the nose. I'll have to shorten it and bring the eyes forward a bit

okay, heres a little update for today..
interior of mouth finnished and body added.
I still have to add the claws and tweak the body a bit.
I brought the eyes forward a bit and shortened the nose as well, this helped alot in taking away the "dog" look. I might even push it back some more still.

anyhoo..

For your ammusement here is a model of a "zombified" cat that I did for an indep. film.

The red areas indicate where rotting flesh should be :)

It was modeled after a puppet that they used in some shots. When they sent the puppet to me I thought I opened a box with roadkill in it - still sticky with fake blood!

I wasn't in charge of adding texture/fur - but I'll try to post a final pic. Pretty funny.

Poor cat ;)

Yes, it could still go back a bit... You can see the profile on that zombie cat...

Also the eyes are too round... you need cat's eyes and the very typical slit which lets the light through... This will make even humans look catlike...

Finally, the back of the jaw should be rounder and more in line with the roundness of the head...

Looking good.

I know it isn't finished yet, but i have never seen a cat with its tail sticking out so straight. If you change this a little, a kink, it may look more like a realistic cat.

The fur seems a little 'disorganised' :p but I have to admit, it's a lot better than I can do. :)

Since theres currently a big stink about people stealing other peoples 3d work over the net I've decided to do something that also makes this community a cool place to be. Not giving away the model just yet, but some good reference video captured, for cat walk cycles.

It's getting there! Cool!!

Cute little cat... I have another just like that ;)

Thanks for the sharing, this will come in handy when I'll do my cat... We also have a huge fat black & white male cat, which will most likely be the subject ;)

Great work!!!

Looking good. The only thing I might say about the walk is that he bobs his head up and down too much. Cats, or at least the few I've had, generally hold their head a little lower almost under the height of the shoulders and there is little up and down movement as they walk.

It is looking good so far but the motion of the cat walking seems to be more horse-like than cat like.

The latest version of your model looks great. Muchly improved. The walk can use some work, but you know that. And if it improves they way your model improves it will look great. Thanks for posting the reference video. That was cool.

Heres an update on the walk cycle. This one has a little hop in the center. Im just starting to build up a bank in motion mixer, and working on the sasquatch maps.

Howdy!

Great SAS job there, but I have a couple questions...

Are you using a neutral pose for SAS to comb the model's fur? There are tufts on the tail's segments that make me think it might be combing while the tail is curved into position, instead of when it's straight.

Also, are you using a tip narrowing setting of 100%? Animal fur most always tapers and generaly never has flat tips. The feeling I get from your pelt, is that it might not be fully tapered on the ends.

Otheriwise, looking really nice. Seems like you solved the overcombing problem in the earlier tests.

That cat is looking real good now!

However, i feel the tail is a little stiff when the cat is moving/jumping.

Otherwise great job! :)

I not going to comment on the fur because I only have SasLite, so to me your fur looks totally amazing.

I did, however, notice one slight error in your anatomy, particularily your cat's front limbs. You have it's elbows set up like that of a horse, to bend backwards, a cats elbows bends the other way. FYI :)

Looks awesome!!!!!

Absolutely love your Cat.

But did you know that Cats walk, by moving both left legs and then both right legs simultaneously?

Camels and Giraffes are the only other four legged animals that share this behaviour.

Have a look at this page it may be of some help:
