View Full Version : 6 recycling plants
Hi I'm starting to make 6 recycling plants for flash presentations.
Thought I’d keep a progress record here.
If you’d like to see how there used in the presentations here’s one I made earlier. I made all the flash and all the animations using Lightwave with swift3D.
http://www.sims-group.com/uk/flash/fridge_photos/fridge.asp
The company already had the plant in the existing presentation. Modeled by the manufacture I guess. It was originally green so I did a recolor job on it.
Now I’m modeling 6 more to blend with the original and this is the start of the first.
I really could use a big grabbing digger/excavator type thing for one of them. Has anyone seen one, preferably free of course but I might pay just to get away with not modeling it.
It's a busy month all 6 and a website are to be complete but sep4 - aahh.
Any help is very much appreciated.

I like that flash site. Pretty slick.

Yes,
The flash site was well done; quite well planned out it looked, indeed. Renders worked well, too. Radiosity or spinning lights for that GI look?
Very nice on project execution.
Thanks,
It's a Radiosity Job.
Made a tweak to the second model.

Lude, that is some pretty cool machinery there.
I always like machinary type stuff.
Didn't have time to check out the flash stuff, but I will later if I have the time.
but the stills I looked at were great.

The machines all look great.
Heaps of detail; they'l fit great with what is already on the site.

That's a really nice render. I love all the detail on your model. How long did it take you to model?
No crits from me - there's nothing wrong with it!!!!!
Adrian.
Thanks.
There are 2 of us working on 2 plants and we've been at it for about 3-4 working days.
We're trying to get a good feel of what to build from really crap info. That's slowing us down loads.
So where using artistic license allot. This is ok for the client because they just want to give a feel of there plants nothing specific.
This is the sort of image we've been given.
This was rendered at 1832 x 792 and was complete in 14m 49s

you should create a scene where that little man happens to slip and fall into the one of the machines

I should think your clients are delighted with the work. Great job!

The fact that you've only had second rate material to reference from makes this an even better job.
Nice clean render as well; shows off your model beautifully.
Adrian.

I'd thought of having a pair of legs sticking out of somewhere – lol
Something to lighting up the project for my self.

digitally maiming something will lighten up anyones day... much like sticking plastic army men in the oven for "radiation testing"
but yeah, nice work, great detail ... keep it coming

I doubt his customer's day would be brightened up if they saw it... ;-)

yeah, guess they wouldnt find it too humerous
Hi guys,
I've run into a problem.
Lots of 2 point polygons (lines) have made there way into my models.
Here's 2 pic showing what happens when i merge points.
pic one before merging points.
After merging points - lines appear
It's really messing up my renders.
I could just not merge points but that's not going to get rid of the lines already in the models.
I've been trying to select them to delete but just can’t seam to do it.
I need some help.
Thanks in advance.

fetch up the polygon statistics panel, and select all the 2 point polys. Then delete them!
Paul
OK - but can't find the button to open it.
ahhh, i was being a bit dum there. I found it now, i'll give this a shot.
thanks Paul
Hi I have some models that I need to get rid of 2 point polygons from.
I’m trying to use the polygon info panel to select them by doing a selection invert to select all the poly's in the model then deselecting any that have more than 2 points.
I’m then going to delete the remaining selection.
The problem is just 1 of the models has 14781 polygons and it's taking a life time to do this.
Has anyone got a quick way?
Thanks
Lude.

You just need to deselect all polys, call up the polygon panel, select the 2 point polys and hit delete. It's as simple as that. Should be real quick.
Paul
Is this the right panel?
Found under "Display Tab" >>> "Selection" >>> "Info button"
I have to select at lest 1 poly to open this and then it won’t let me pick any more.
ah ok I just tried to delete some poly’s and I cant when that panels open so obviously that isn't it. :(
I’m pressing on regardless, here are some more shots.

The panel you want is described in section 22.12 of the LW7.0 user guide. Modeller->Windows->Statistics->Open
(or just hit 'w'). You need to be in polygon mode.
Paul
That’s sorted now Paul, thanks you’ve been a really big help.

Excellent . We got there in the end!
What surprises me is that you've done some great work and haven't used this panel before.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your work, it's first rate.

Gotta say,
This is excellent work - I can't believe you haven't utilized the stats panel before!
Makes a nice change from human heads and such ;)
How many polys in these things? (stats 'w' will tell ya) - How long to model them?
I'd like to see a human perspective on the shot for a comparision.
Hi guys this is the latest.
Do you think i could call this complete or should I put stuff on the conveyors?
If so what do you think would be the best time saying way of doing it?

Yup, it'll give it all life.
Now, it's dead on the belts except the one people are standing around and that looks kinda suspect as it goes nowhere. :(
The first doesn’t link into the plant the guy's lift the various bits of and put them into the appropriate tanks.
I thought it would look beater with scrap on the belts but I’m running really, really short of time so I’m going to skip it for now.
Lude
Have just finished 1 of the 6 presentations.
You can check it out at

All 3d done with lightwave.

Very nice Lude ;) I like the style, maybe the highlight on the blue object is slightly to overexposed? Not sure, on the other hand it makes the picture look more original.
Quite nice.
Erik
Yeah but I like it :)
I had tried lowering the highlights a bit but the image just didn't look as interesting.
Thanks erikals.
