A client of mine proved that the VT system is still not dead. He used it to webstream the 3 hour PreGrammy's webcast earlier this week. You can watch the webcast here - http://www.grammy.com/grammy_awards/GRAMMY_Live.aspx

You can read the press release about it here-

So for you guys out there that think the TriCaster guys have all the fun... well think again. A VT system still has plenty of fun. The Grammys... How much more fun do you need?

Way to go Mark!

Your right Jef, VT[5] is far from dead. It's a very powerful solution and more people should buy it.

I agree and consider it more powerful :)

Far from dead.

IMHO NewTek should be marketing it for "when Tricaster is not enough..."

When's the last time you saw ANY Newtek marketing for the VT?

It's been years, hasn't it?

I was recently at the Broadcast video show in London, and was actually told that tricaster wasn't enough for what I wanted and to look at the VT system.

The only thing that really gets my goat is the lack of preview monitors for your inputs in the system.

i am using VT3 at the moment, is this fixed in VT5?

No, it isn't. It's a hardware limitation of both the VT and Tricaster. There are only 3 input channels, so the only way they can provide 3 on-screen camera preview monitors is if the interface is limited to 3 camera inputs total (as it is in the lower Tricaster models.)

Bob's XTra channel does offer on-screen preview locked to a hardware input as an aftermarket expansion, but additional hardware is required for each input you add.

I've gone to the video store many times and I will stick with the VT5- I now have 2 for live switching- I keep one for my office and 1 for on the go. I got sick of tearing it apart everytime I wanted to do a shoot. I do like the compactness of the Tricaster, but it doesn't do so many things that the VT5 does.
