View Full Version : How To Make Rounded Text?

Does anyone have any tips on how to make rounded-edge text. The problem with text created in modeler or imported from illustrator is that when you extrude it you have over four-point polys on the faces of the letters, so you can't subpatch it. And bevelling the faces alwasy results in gargled polys. Any ideas? Thanks.

Oh yeah, and how come i always have to reload fonts when i open modeler? They never stay there after i close the program.

LW use to do that..And all sorts of nice stuff
took it out in ver 6

PUT IT BACK NEWTEK !!!

And it only loads the font you are going to use, but the last font used should stay loaded..mine does

use to be able to do neon sign type of tube lettering,
did beveled fonts automatically,
did rounded faced fonts automatically,
did circle words automatically
could write a paragraph and use spacing and format also
automatically.

yeah the text tool is a bit odd in LW. I use to be able to save the font list but it doesn't work anymore. It only seems to work if you use the PSFonts that ship with LW

There are no issues with the fonts list on my PC... I load and save it once and they are there everytime... Only TTF though...

I'm on Mac OS9.2. even when I'm trying to load the LW Fonts the File Chooser doesn't recognise them. I have to select 'Show All Documents'.

I can save the font list but it only remember's the LW Fonts.

Hey poilcarpo, thanks! It's not a fantastic solution but it is definitely better. If you set the edge width too high it will still mess up the polygons, but otherwise it is what i was looking for. There are some many tools in that "additional" section that i didn't even know tools like this were there. At first i thought this was a third party plug-in, but it's nice that it is within lightwave. Thanks again.

no problem.

i just went to look for it on OSX and guess what...it isn't there. :(

damn lack of legacy plug-ins not ported to OSX.

i also think that Bevel++ will handle text bevels a bit better. :)

see here (http://www.dtium.com/software/bevelpp/)

I am using OS X and i have the router tool. Im using 7.5b, maybe that's why.

Bevel++ does look better. Actually, it looks like exactly what i would want, but it looks like it is only for windows. Too bad.

Router isn't a Legacy Plugin it's an Lscript

Actually I think you can get some nice curved effects by mixing SubDs and normal Polys.

riki,
can you please share your 'lw colour settings' because I really like the look of that goldie surface on blue background. Please include your gold surface colour which is not in 'lw hub config file'.

thanks.

I still want the old one back (Ver5)

that way doesn't quad the face.

ver 5 did and it made really nice tube letters that ya could SubD nicely.

It's like they killed Kenny
Those ba*tards!
