I haven't been posting my doodles and thought I should get back to it. This was a sketch I had fun with this week..thought I'd share.

I like it, is it a self portrait or done after a picture? What happend to the beard in the corner of the mouth? I'll be off to a class for some model sketching in two hours with a piece of charcoal and some paper.

It's cool overall but the nose is not in the middle of the face with respect to perspective foreshortening. The far side part of the eye glasses for example are much more elongated than the near side. Obviously, unless you have really skewed glasses this should not be the case. Also the lack of beard in the corner of the near side does look kinda odd, I think this is mainly because there is no hint of the same on the far side.

If you want I'll post a paintover.

Cool stuff, I should start posting aswell me thinks.

It' a rough self portrait...trying to go for a distorted take on me :P

The lack of hair on the corner is that is what I have....the distorted glasses, nose, etc was part of the distortion I was playing with....

I actually have big cheeks that arent represented here. I'm amazed at how caricature artists can warp someone and still keep a likeness....I did this quick sketch to play with the same idea.

more to come...until I hit one that I think is a good fit.

thanx for the feedback

Indeed, it certainly still looks like you, despite heavy distortion, some even uncharacteristic to yourself. I wonder though if portraits can capture that je-ne-sais-quoi (or call it soul) and some people just have some stronger features or special proportions than others and if the brains amazing ability to fill in the blanks is doing alot of the work here. No doubt this sketch could probably work for you aswell as many others looking like you. Whereas your photo would probably work for only a very small subset of the same. It just happens you are the one we are most acquainted with and so immediately see you rather than just an anonymous face. Neat exercise really, selfportraits. I wonder if you could objectify yourself so much that the portrait is unrecognizable to you and your friends (who would recognize you on your soul alone), but still allow the man on the street to pick you out from a lineup. :)

No, the portrait William drew is a photo realistic representation.....that's William, I thought he actually posted a sepia toned old fashion Victorian style photo.

I see the work with sober objectivity it's all you chaps who are fooled by the matrix.

Oh......and good self portrait by the way, please post more.
