I have an FX7. It works with SE.
I run into issues if I import with another app (.m2v vs .m2t), but the footage comes in fine. I am happy with it.
HDV does have some limitations. The color space is limited for greenscreen work (but the FX7 has HDMI out that can be used with things like the blackmagic cards - but they do not play nice with SE). THere is the whole issue of dropping a frame wrecking a full half second of video, but I do not get that at all.
I use the standard sony blue tapes (the $3-4 ones)- and ONLY those tapes. I have heard many say pick one type of tape and stick to it unless it flat doesn't work.
I like the light weight and the long battery life. If you want, I might be able to find a clip I could put where you could find it, but many reviews have those already.
At the time, I was looking at it, the FX1, or the Canon XH A1. The FX7 won out for me.
Oh yeah, its kind of weak in low light, but you should have good light to get got video anyway.
