First post, so sorry if this has been done or in the wrong spot.

Q1: I've been messing around with Screamernet. I want to know if the segment memory limit is "per thread/proc". I assume it is from my experience but, I'd like confirmation. I've noticed some unusually high page file use. FYI My "render cows" are Quads with 4Gigs of ram and 256 dedicated video.

Q2: I've been experiencing some problems while helping others render on machines (laptops) using "Shared Video Memory". It's failing saying there's not enough memory even though there's plenty and the segment memory limit is suitably set.

TIA:D

1. pretty sure it's per job, but I have little experience with screamernet, there may be some difference.

2. Not sure what the Shared Video memory is about, LW doesn't use it for rendering - what are you setting the segment memory limit to?

The memory limit is for the whole frame, if you set it too high it won't split the frame into more managable sizes, it will try to do the entire thing at once no matter how little memory you have. I've had the limit set as low as 12.

Also, if the limit is set high enough that the frame renders all at once, with no segmenting, any higher setting of the memory limit will make no difference whatsoever.

If you're using each core for a separate frame ( I heard that s-net prefers 1-thread scenes ) then that only leaves 1gb per job. If not then you still hit a 2gb per application limit, unless you're running all-64bit.
