Yeah, I was going to say that it looks like a cross between "nightmare before christmas" and poindexter. Cool.

Hey Veljko, where are you from? What kind of work are you involved with? By the way, your character is excellent. How did you get the material/cloth right?

hi,
Im from Split, Croatia- Just winished the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb- `em currently the lead artist in a game dev. studio lemonade productions (www.lemonade-p.com) in my home town-Split
But basicly I do all sorts of things in 3d and 2d (mainly 3d)-
about the materials, i just played around- Basicly i trie to picture what would happen over time to a certain material in real world, and then apply thoes things to my materials-
as for the cloth of the puppet the main thing is the bump map-
i used the bump image as a alpha map to make the dirt between the strands of cloth, and for the specularity maps, alpha maps for different colour layers and all sorts of things..
hope this helps..

First of all, your model looks great, but have you seen the cartoon Lenore by Roman Dirge? Your character looks a lot like Mr. Gosh....

funny:),
never seen it before-
its interesting how two people somehow have the same mental garbage that pours out in the same form of a sack boy with buttons instead of eyes-:)

I just love it. Great work on that "worn look" left eye button.
Can you tell us a little about the lighting setup?
veljko

Thanx:)
I was realy pleased with how it turned out, actualy called the first finished image "Pupet-finished-yepee" :)
The light setup is rather simple,
I placed 3 lights alltogether
1 light was an area light for the main lightening of the scene. I learn a little trick of the lw3d user group- If you increase the size of the are light (i size it to 5..) it drops soft shadows.
2 light was a backlight (i use spot lights for backlights..) I place this light on the oposite side of the main light to break the darkness of the main shadows and get the "reflected light" look on the dark sides of the object (it could be considered as fake radiosity trick..). I usually give this light lower value then the main light and oriente it to face the main shadows.
3 light was the main spot light- i used a spot light (offcourse:) ) with some volumetrics with a bluish hue on it.
and, thats it- hope it helps:)
