View Full Version : Limiting Texture Channel Dynamic Range?

LightWave's support for values greater than 100% or less than 0% in texture channels can be useful, but sometimes it can be a pain. Often I've wanted to use an additive gradient in the transparency channel to clip a procedural texture, to create a finite border to a texture rather than just fading it to 100% smoothly. Unfortunately, this leads to areas going above 100% transparency, which interferes with how any background shows through the object.

Is there a way to limit the dynamic range in texture channels? Something like Photoshop's "lighten" and "darken" layer blending modes? Or is there some other technique I haven't figured out, that has the same result?

(Offtopic...I registered this name awhile ago to make a quick comment, without giving it much effort...now I'd like the first letter capitalized properly, but it seems that I can't change it, re-register, or delete the account. Am I stuck?)

One more semi-related question: is there any way to group texture layers? For example, have one "previous layer" gradient work on the combined values of multiple previous layers?

Alright, that's it for now...thanks in advance! :)
