To be perfectly honest, if I would have only seen the model from the second post, I would have said something like, "meh... it's alright, some of the forms are a little bit confusing and don't flow well especially in the cheek area" but seeing the sketch version from the first post makes it a truly awesome model. I can see some really great characatures being created with this render style.

Very nice! Which shader/Node setup did you use for the sketch render?

I love that look. But what I really love is the rim highlight around the edge, but then behind it is a nice solid line. I bet you could fool 9 out of 10 people into thinking this was inked by hand.

Can't wait for the article!

William,

Is there a possibility you could just animate this guys head turning just to see how it holds up?

Does anyplace in the UK import this HDRi3D magazine?
Or is it a case of getting a subscription and getting it three or four months after US publication?

I'll ask the folks at HDRI3D if they can answer that for you

I guess what he wanted to see is constantly changing sketch strokes in the animation, not the baked texture moving around. I guess with a constantly moving null as texture reference for the procedurals it should be working (at 10-15 frames/s without motion blur).

Cheers

Any channel can be animated...so making it animate is not an issue...most people are worried about it animating and looking like crap....

You can have it both ways!

Have you switched to modeling in Modo? What are the significant differences between Lightwave and Modo?

I've added it to my toolkit this year.

It's very much like LightWave...

I subscribe here in the UK, and as far as I can tell I get the issue about the same time as its mentioned online.
