Hi there, hope someone can help me to understand how to model this superb kind of beautiful artwork from this Japanese artist?

Is it possible to model the yellow bulb with greases and with the inset for the lamps or as an upper and lower part with bevel and thickness in sub-d's or how should you go about???

Oh and check this guys website: http://www2.jan.ne.jp/~yutakai/

Hope some of you experts have some tips for me...

Thanx

Peter

Hi peterplezier.

I think you should check this out http://www.lwg3d.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14258

Its a car tutorial based on spline patch modelling. You should know a bit about splines and patching before working it out.

Very good technique to do the sort of things you are after.;)

Yep PatricLab is correct

After ya do a Lewis car, you can do everything there is in that picture.

He's the closest thing to Spline God there is except for Spline God himself :D

It's crease, not grease... You got me wondering there...

If suppose there would be some points along this crease really close together and some inside...

I think to create a good crease u need a minimum of 4 bands of polygons (so thats 5 polygon edges) to create a nice solid, smooth crease. Thats 1 edge pulled down to create the vally, and then 2 edges on each side to keep the curve tight.

Thanx you very muts for zee tieps. I guess this kind of art work has to be done with splines and patching them instead of sub-d box modelling.

Will wrestle myself through this very comprehensive tutorial and hope I will gain more modelling technique...

There is a great plugin you can find at Flay.com called FI's Wrinkle which will allow you create your crease within a range of point selections. Sorry but I can't find the site to download from favs. Just search flays plugin database.

You can also freeze the mesh and use a cutter to put your crease in like a boolean or template. This way you don't have to worry about making 3 or 4 point polygons as when you use SDS.
