I'm working on a new image. It is not a mutant or a super detailed head, just a simple composition.

From the title of your thread, I assume you are going to add barbs to the wire, are you ?
The surface of the globe does not look very glassy. I guessed from the caustics in the shadow that it was glass.
Just my comments.

I lowered the bump map for the marbel and changed a bit the illumintation, next I'll finish the wire.

I think i like the second one a little better. I think barbs on the wire would add quite a bit. Nice work.

This is more what I'm trying to achieve:

The barbs make the whole difference !
Just one thing, the shadows of 2 barbs on the right seem half transparent. Don't you need to triple your polys, or flip some of them ?

Thanks drclare and renato,
The geometry at the tip of the barb was twisted in one axis (?), I corrected that problem without the need to triple the geometry.
I still don't like the glass surface, I've done it before many times but now doesn't work well.

I love this. I don't know what your plans are for the barbs but I will add this suggestion if I may. Barbed wire looks more threatening when its all rusty. Perhaps you could dirty it up a bit. Just a thought.
Great job.
