We're researching VT3.

During a demo I never saw the audio waveform,
like Adobe Premiere, underneath the clip.

I've become quite accustomed to seeing the waveform
for timing and editing cues.

I was told VT3 can do this, but I'm leary that it's a separate
step or not a standard feature...?

Help is appreciated.

See the bottom of this image - this is a music clip, but if it was audio associated with a video clip it would drop in and align with the video automatically:

Thank you for the pic. That helps me understand.

Now to me, it looks a little more difficult to decifer beats
in this type of waveform graphic display, verses Premiere's
stereo graphic. Do you know what I mean?

So, I wonder if you can change that preference perhaps?

You can zoom way in, but this is the display. I don't find it hard, but I tend to mark the beats audibly using markers anyway.

oh, yeah. NO longer any need to see the beats in your audio clips, thanks to VT[3]'s Tool Shed!

You referring to the 'quantize' function, Paul? I haven't tried that yet ... whassit do?

Are we talking about some sort of "beat detective" feature here?

it doesn't detect beats automatically.. but it works quite well. You simply place markers by hand at the beat while it's playing.. Then have the quantize function in toolshed space out the beats evenly so they match the beat more accurately.

I actually like the way audio is distplayed in ted, I can match two cameras with the same audio really quick, but I come from media100 wich uses a similar display not Premier.

Another easy way to match multicam clips is to look for a distinct gesture or ocurrence in the video, like someone raising a hand or even a blink sometimes works, then put a marker on that clip at that exact frame, then look for the same thing on the other clips, place markers, align the markers, done!

It looks to me like the audio waveform display would be a
change for the better; and the benefits of auto beat detection
would be a great advancement to what I'm accustomed to.

I should think that if you really really must see the L and R waveforms separately you could dup the track and offset vert. then pan the one to L and the other to R. - BAM -

The problem is that when you separate the L and R channel, even when you boost the levels to the same combined audio level, the waveforms do NOT reflect this. Instead they look REALLY small, even though they don't sound it.

coming from an Audio Editing workstation like Cool Edit Pro. I find the waveform kinda funky.

After a while though you get used to it.

Yes - it's Cooledit that I use as well. Very good app - simple.
Protools isn't necessary...

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
