Dunno. Iīm not usually a "stills" artist, but I was toying around with the fiberFX tool for Modeler and this came from nowhere. Before I knew I was texturing and lighting the thing. It looks like some sort of Superman-ish crystals.
Itīs a bit blurry because DOF wasnīt added at LW...the render was terribly long enough and had to resort to olītricks because trying the dielectric material here made the render times go over the roof.

Had to resort to Fprime. As much as I like LWīs native renderer, it seems to have quite a bottle neck when it comes to scenes with heavy reflections/refractions.

I used the node editor to give different variations of blue to the crystals, and their diffuse is lower at the tip than at the base, and they get more transparent there. This was possible thanks to the handy weight map that the FiberFX tool creates automagically.

...made the render times go over the roof...

I think you mean "made the render times go though the roof". I had an image in my head of the LW cow jumping over the house.

It looks great, does it export as a mesh? I haven't played with FiberFX yet, but I am going to this very night.

Now I know what it reminds me of, rows and rows of miniature Christmas lights.

uh...yeah, right hahah. Iīm not native to english so sometimes I make dumb mistakes such as that one. Sessh, I hate when it happens :p
And yes, the Modeler tool does export as a mesh (itīs the only thing it does. If you donīt need a mesh then you only need to use the Layout version). That allows you to create scales, feather and all sort of similar cool stuff and to boost the UVs are already done for you.

Very nice image. I thought FiberFX generates only fiber strands and leaves but I guess it can multiply custom geometry which is cool.

This not custom geometry. Itīs a fiber, with 6 sides and quite some radius. :) I could see a creature with these things as fibers reacting to motion. That would be a cool sight.

Wonderful work... loving all the creativity and experimentation with FiberFX. Haven't had time to use it yet and didn't know it integrated so well with nodes.
