I am in the progress of making a city scene and so far i have spent a lot of time modeling the windows. I'm wondering if anybody knows a better way of creating inset windows. I have been making my window and copying it across the face of the building and then boolean subtracting that area. Can anybody help me.

I am also wondering if anybody knows how I can add lit windows that give off light without having to turn on radiosity seeing as I'm running on a slower computer. If anybody can help me I would very much appreciate it.

You could subdivide a cube or other area that is to be a building so it is more heavily meshed, then in rows and columns pick square polygons, a bit like this:

00000000000000
0X0X0X0X0X0X0
00000000000000
0X0X0X0X0X0X0
00000000000000

The X's would be selected polygons and could then be beveled/smooth shifted in to create windows...

Make the surfaces for the X's luminous... once they are inside, so they will give light...

This is the method (X's) used to create a skyscraper in the book Inside Lightwave 7...

As richpr says, you can get some great looking windows just by a series of bevels.

I noticed this lscript the other day, I've not tried it yet so not sure how easy it is to use, but it looks pretty good for making windows on curved/angled walls ...

Thanks a lot for the tip, I never thought of that. It would have been a lot less time consuming if i had done it that way. Thanks a lot!!:D
