Hey I posted about this earlier in the help forum to get some preliminary ideas, but I figured I'd get started here. I've got a museum interior (no exhibits yet) that I'm trying to get a realistic look on.

My main problem is lighting, followed by textures. There are plenty of windows and two of the sides are glass walls, so there's lots of places for light to come in, but I just can't get that look that I want.

Here are two shots, one with some wires so that you can see some geometry. One area light acting as the sun with Skylight. Basic Lightwave renderer.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated a) with regards to lighting and b) with regards to surfacing.

A possible general approach:

Try starting with one light for the sun. A distant light or dp's infinite light would be best for that.

Then turn on ray trace shadows so that you'll know where the patches of light are.

Then turn on radiosity and tinker with it.

*edit* hurrah for post 222, by the way.

Do you have any Raytracing options turned on?
At this stage, you need shadows at least.

What LightWave needs for interiors like this is lights simulating ambient coming in through openings. It's not a daylight simulator so you have to do it manually.

And to be clear about what each light is doing in turn, make sure the Ambient Light is down at 0% - one light at a time, with shadows on.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be experimenting with the lighting for a while I suppose. What about textures? Those I feel are also lacking severely. Is there anywhere that I can download some good presets?

It's the simple things like wall/ceiling textures that don't seem right and it's because I don't know what to set for diffuse/spec/gloss/etc
